The Broken Heart of Sylvia Plath Dying is an art, like everything else. I do it exceptionally well. Sylvia Plath has long been recognized as a poetic icon. After committing suicide in her thirties, many of her previously unrecognized works gained notoriety and praise. Throughout her life, she struggled to be accepted into the literary world. After writing many poems, short stories and The Bell Jar, she remained unsatisfied with the success and momentum she gained with each, and took her own life. It is through her words we see a woman that used her writing as a means of expression, many times expressing grief, sadness and anger. Plath began writing a series of poems shortly before her death that provide is with an opportunity to see the intimate conflicts she felt. Many of these poems focus on death and suffering. Plath uses death imagery in poems found in Ariel to represent her need to escape reality and therefore decouple herself from emotional and physical existence . I will show how Plaths life experiences and more importantly, her reactions to them, have contributed to her depressive, death-obsessed state. I will also provide examples from several of her poems demonstrating Plaths use of death imagery and analyze why it is used in the way that it is. Lastly, I will show how many of her poems from Ariel demonstrate Plaths self-loathing, and her need to feel a consciousness of success-even if that success comes from an accomplished suicide. Although Sylvia Plath had many opportunities throughout her life, and accomplished what many only dream of, we see how the few tragedies she did endure, affected her. Leaders of communitys The rural area of Islam impacted many African American people during its time. This Black Muslim nation demanded adherence to basic teachings, which included racial separation, white devilry, and the coming Armageddon. None of these basic teachings supported James Baldwins perceptions, which pitied whites for their inability to see through the color curtain and embrace differences that whites and blacks held together to create a better, inexorable, and supreme nation. Leaders such as Elijah Muhammad and Malcolm X provided the pot of the Nation of Islam. These moguls proved to be two of the most powerful leaders of their time. They paved their way through history and rightfully landed a attitude belonging to the Islam nation. Even after death, Elijah Muhammad and Malcolm X still influence people in communities around the world to look beyond themselves and conquer a firmness to the problems that societies still face. However there were some that did not concur with the Nation of Islam, and one of these people was James Baldwin. Newspapers are supposed to give us an unbiased factual report of important events, but that isnt always the case. Newspapers can make certain events seem more important and more consequential than other events. This happened during the Palmer Raids of the early 1920s. Newspapers made the Palmer Raids more preponderant and Anti-Communist feelings stronger among the American public during the 1920s. To understand how the media escalated the Red Scare and Palmer Raids it helps to have a brief history of them. After World War I there was a Red Scare among many Americans. There are many explanations for this rampant inflation, a tough job market, strikes, race riots, and the publics need for a scapegoat (Duminel 218). When Attorney General A. Mitchell Palmers home was bombed he immediately believed it was the Communists and went after all of them. In November of 1919, and December of 1920 the U.S. Department of Justice under Palmers direction conducted raids in a number of prominent cit ies (Remelgas 3). Many persons were arrested without warrants, and without being given proper rights. Over five thousand people were arrested, and a amount of two hundred and forty nine people were deported (Remelgas 4). After these raids and unlawful arrests, Palmer was called before the House Rules Committee and Senate Judiciary Committee and convicted of using Government cash in an improper way causing the end of the first Red Scare. That the events surrounding their world and time get the best those of the individual. Casablanca deals with a festive arena in the midst of war, Ricks Caf Americain,yet it is set in a typical place that is different than the surrounding world.
